The City of Joplin, MO in conjunction with the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce conducts a detailed study to find those industries that best suit the underutilized workforce in the immediate area.  At the conclusion of the year long study it is determined that the Business Support and Telecommunications industries represent key growth opportunities for Joplin and the surrounding area.

ATC is the first to answer Joplin’s call and opens in February.  ATC quickly employs 300+ with outbound sales and marketing.  By 2000 ATC is 400+ strong and still growing.

ATC is acquired by Aegis Communications USA and Fortune 500 companies are added to the already growing list of top shelf clients.  Inbound Customer Service is added.

Aegis Communications USA becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Essar Enterprise, a $50 billion global conglomerate, based in India.

In February, the Aegis-Joplin center celebrates 10 years of community service and economic growth.

Aegis-Joplin continues to provide over 500 jobs within Joplin’s growing telecommunications sector.  With annual payroll in excess of $8 million, Aegis continues to be a vital part of the Joplin area economy.
